It is not nice to think that people break rules and ruin the fun and education of others, but unfortunately it happens.

When it does happen those people that broke the rules must deal with the consequences e.g. sanctions or punishment.

What is difficult is deciding on punishments that fit the crime, for example:

“If you are found to be using someone elses account to log on to the computer without their permission, what would be a fair punishment?”

Some might say “A written comment”, others might say “isolation” or “the loss of your account”.

The actual punishment is loss of your own account and a phone call home. This is a fair punishment because it fits the crime, the crime is serious and illegal and so the punishment is severe . The consequence of that persons actions are that he/she will never be allowed to use the computers again in any subject.

I would like you to suggest consequences of breaking the ‘Blog Rules’.

In order for you to achieve a level 4a in today’s lesson you must leave a sensible comment in this Blog.

Year 7,

It is very important that we establish clear guidelines and rules from the start, on how to use this blog sensibly and without risk.

Think about the ‘Risks associated with digital communications’ that you have just discussed and keep these in mind when suggesting your rules.

With your help, collectively we can establish 10-12 rules that everyone must obide to when using the school Blog.

Hi Year 7,

what I would like you to do is to post me a comment about what you think are the possible risks involved when communicating digitaly.

Think about safety and privacy of information, maybe you’ve experienced problems when communicating digitaly, if so what were the problems and how could they be prevented.

Make sure that you all post a comment and make sure that you all use a sensible name so I can idenitfy you and use your school email address when requested (username@arnold-hill.notts.sch.uk)
